"I hope you don't mind that I put down in words how wonderful life is while you're in the world." ~Elton John (Your Song)
I am indulging myself in the topic of love for Valentine's week.
Love is a wonderful thing, As the immortal words of Elton John say, it feels like the world is a better place when we share our world with our soulmate.
Love is something that humans crave. I read some stats yesterday saying nearly 80% of Americans are looking for more love in their lives. I don't know if that figure is the same in all countries but I'm going with my gut that there are a lot of people out there who are searching for love in vain.
This is a tricky topic, but I wanted to give it a shot. Surely helping people find love is a noble cause.
I believe that searching for love is fruitless, the more you search, the more needy you seem, the further out of reach your goal becomes. In my experience it works more effectively to just open yourself up to love.
I'm hearing the skeptics already … hmmmm! How exactly do I do that?
Step 1 for today
The more love we have in our lives, the more we create a virtuous circle to invite even more love, in. All of us have connections that we'd like to spend more time with, people we may have known for a couple of years, we've admired them from a distance, we've perhaps been too shy or we just don't make room in our diaries. Now's the time to make a change and put yourself out there. These people are your seeds of gold!
Ask yourself honestly …
Who has my best interests at heart?
Who sees and treasures me for who I really am?
Who truly cares for me?
Now take action
Make plans to spend more time with them
Focus on giving more to them, your time, your energy. No expectations for return. No agenda. Just giving
Ask them for more. Sound at odds, I know but, asking for more is an act of intimacy
Enjoy them. It really is that simple. Do the things you enjoy together
This is not an overnight exercise. Like all good things it takes time.
It really is worth a try. And if you're wondering why I'm talking about LOVE on Linkedin … just think about the benefits to yourself of feeling loved and of loving, now multiply that by your team, the workforce. No brainer!
