"Fulfillment is a right and not a privilege. Every single one of us is entitled to feel fulfilled by the work we do, to wake up feeling inspired, to have a sense that we contributed to something larger than ourselves" (Simon Sinek).
We all have a desire to accomplish something in our lives. The very moment we start to learn how to take our first baby steps, our curiosity is what leads us to have a strong appetite for exploration. Everything around us is a novelty. We develop a playful relationship with our world. We are swayed by all sorts of emotions.
Then we grow up. Our responsibilities increase. We feel like we have no time for ourselves. We feel like life is taking over us. We may become successful and highly regarded in our jobs but we know deep inside something is missing. There are times when we feel like we do something for the sake of it. There are times when we feel like we are not going anywhere.
If you are currently struggling with this, I would encourage you to do as it follows:
- Collect your stories. Look at your past and the most significant moments - the experiences you've had, the people you've been influenced by, the lives we touched and the highs and lows you went through. Try to be as specific as you can be. You will then start identifying patterns.
- Share your stories with a partner, someone you trust. You will notice together that themes start to emerge, insights about yourself that you may never expressed before.
- Connect with those themes using your five senses. This will help you build - or rebuild - the foundation of your purpose.
- Write down your sentence. Create the sentence that best represents your why behind who you are, what you do and how you do it. Visualise in your mind's eye every single word. Repeat your sentence to yourself every day. Say it out loud. Notice what emotions it brings to you. Say it out loud each time you need it. It will help you keep it to yourself and start manifesting your vision with tangible actions.
