The Hidden Cost of “Keeping Your Options Open”

It sounds smart, doesn’t it?

“Keep your options open.”

“Don’t close doors too early.”

“See what happens.”

But most people aren’t keeping options open.

They’re avoiding commitment.

And it’s costing them more than they realise.

Every open loop in your life—career decisions, relationships, ideas you haven’t acted on—takes energy.
Multiply that by everything you’re “thinking about”…
and suddenly you’re tired without knowing why.

In a world where everything feels uncertain, keeping options open feels safe.
But it creates a different kind of pressure:

-You never fully commit
-You never fully progress
-You never fully relax

At some point, progress requires you to close doors.

Not because you’re 100% sure…
but because you’re ready to move.

The people who feel most in control right now aren’t the ones with endless options.

They’re the ones who chose a direction—and backed themselves in it.

If you recognise yourself in this, you don’t need more time—you need clarity and a decision you can stand behind.

That’s something we work through together in coaching.
If you’re ready to stop holding everything open and start moving forward, I’m here.
