by Zahara MatovuWhat is happiness? What do you think about when you think about happiness?
Feels like a difficult question to answer for many of us.
They're 2 types of happiness. External and internal happiness.
You may put on a smile, laugh out loud and look happy but still not genuinely be happy on the inside. That's external happiness.
Internal happiness is the genuine joy, peace and fulfilment you feel inside your body. This is the happiness most of us are looking for.
We usually think that happiness will happen for us in the future, so the search never stops. That's why we are always looking for the next thing that will make us happy.
You may finally buy that one thing you've been saving for, while thinking that when you get it, you'll experience real happiness. And when that moment finally comes, when you now have what you longed for, more often than not, you're not as happy like you expected. So after a few days, you starting looking for the next thing. And so the circle revolves.
However, happiness is a moment that should be experienced in the present. In the little things, because the more you want, the less happier you become and vice versa.
All the wants and desires start to make your life anxious and overwhelmed somehow, because now you have even more to do towards your desires.
To me, happiness is a choice, intentional peace instead of endless desire.
When we become intentional about happiness, we stop chasing it, and in turn find it in what we already have, instead of what we wished we had, or desire to have.
Happiness is also mostly in the priceless things like presence, touch, hugs, freedom, peace etc.
Stop chasing the next thing, and create happiness in the present moment.
