by Zahara MatovuWhen's the last time you waited for motivation in order to take action? I guess it's been a while or maybe you're still waiting for that motivation.
I want to let you know that, contrary to the usual belief, it is taking action first that breeds motivation.
Take working out for example, getting up and starting to work out without asking yourself if you feel like it, will get you taking action, and while you're working out, after one set, that's when you start to motivate yourself to do a second set too, because you're already working out. Meaning, you showed up for yourself!
Now, imagine that you told yourself, "I will work out tomorrow", then tomorrow comes but you "don't feel like working out". You tell yourself, "I have no motivation", see the difference? Can you start taking action in this scenario? I guess the answer is obvious.
What I want to say is that motivation is a feeling, an emotion which we can't rely on, because emotions are unreliable (because they keep changing) and temporary.
The best thing to do, is to change your mindset about motivation and action, and know that it's action that leads to motivation. When you wait to "feel good" inorder to take action, the chances are very low that you'll indeed take the intended action.
Action builds momentum, which then leads to motivation. You then want to keep going once you start taking action and stop waiting for motivation.
I hope this helps anyone who needs it.
