by Agakura Viñas BurihabwaBelieving yourself, I've come to learn, is fundamental when it comes to developing the ability to believe in yourself, and it’s a step that shouldn’t be skipped or underestimated.
Like many of the women I’ve talked to and worked with, growing up, it wasn’t unusual for our experiences to be dismissed by the adults around us.
“I'm sure it wasn't that bad.”
“Are you sure that’s what happened?”
“You’re being too sensitive.”
"Auntie Soandso only means well when she laughs about your body shape."
And the list goes on.
Or when we felt proud of something we achieved, only to be told it wasn’t that special or important.
Your inner child learned:
“My perception is wrong. Others know better than me. I can’t trust myself.”
And some of us carried this into adulthood, continuously bonding with people who recreated the same invalidation dynamic.
But the most harmful version is the one we turn toward ourselves.
I’ve caught myself telling myself:
“Don’t make such a fuss.”
“Just brush it off.”
“It’s good, but not that good.”
Downplaying my own perception.
Second-guessing my own knowing.
There is no shortcut to believing in ourselves that bypasses believing ourselves.
And this matters especially in entrepreneurship.
Believing yourself can spare you the unpleasant client experience, the harmful collaboration, the ignored red flag, or the sales conversation where you gaslight your own intuition.
The truth?
You heard what you heard.
You saw what you saw.
You know what you felt.
And you know what you know.
Your skills, your achievements, your intuition, your gifts-they’re real.
And may nobody, including you, talk you out of them.
I’m Agakura, and I help sensitive women entrepreneurs go from invisible to unmistakable, by coming home to themselves and standing unshakably in their truth in love, life, and legacy.
Starting to believe yourself is an important step of your coming home to yourself. It's like finally trusting your internal compass after years of navigating by maps that were imposed on you, but never belonged to you.
If you’ve realized that you’re done doubting what you know and you’re ready to return to the truth of your inner authority, feel free to send me a message. Together we can explore what coming home to yourself could look like now.
Cheering you on always,
Agakura
