by Rachel PictonI love my £5 milk frother. I love it so much that in fact, I bought two.
It’s not sleek or top of the range but every morning it turns my coffee into something that feels just a little bit special. I have this small ritual of frothy milk on top of my coffee as a simple reminder that I matter.
That’s not so small then after all.
This shift in mindset hasn’t come from a big investment but an intention.
When we consistently honour ourselves in the small ways, we begin to shift something fundamental with the thought that I am worth looking after.
In many roles that we take on, especially in healthcare and education, we spend our time responding mostly just to everyone else.
I’d like us to consider that starting to value ourselves, even in the small ways, will have a ripple effect on the environment not only within us but also without. The ripple effect will move gently in the areas we inhabit
So here’s a question: What is your £5 milk frother?
What small, everyday act could remind you that you matter?
I’ve written a longer version of this reflection on my website if you’d like to explore it further: https://rachelpictoncoaching.co.uk/2026/01/20/the-small-things/
