Now could be the time to turn that around and plan for some of the things you would like to do with your time as well as opposed to letting life happen to you. It doesn't have to be a grand fifteen year plan in triplicate cross-referenced and signed by a High Court judge. You don't even need to use a protractor or a slide rule.
The one thing you do need is a desire to focus on what it is you really really really want. A look at something that you want to be, do or have or perhaps an urge to pass what is known in some circles as the rocking chair test - an activity in which you imagine yourself in your rocking chair at a ripe old age thinking and smiling about some of the things you achieved - things that were important to you.
Be warned there aren't many people in this life who get up, get themselves washed and dressed, and just leave the house. I don't know anyone who has just started walking without any idea of where they were going, how they were going to get there, what they were going to do once they got there, how long they were going to do it for and how it was going to be of benefit to them. Yet it's quite easy for us all to have this pattern at times when it comes to our lives.
Now if you are thinking '˜well I don't know what I want' there are different tools out there to help you. I'm a huge fan of '˜The Wheel of Life' activity (but the sentence can be completed with any word for example life, work, health and so on). It's an activity in which gives you a snapshot of where you are at the moment with the different elements that make up your work, health or life wheel. You rate your level of satisfaction with each segment (not yourself or your performance).
You may find that on balance you are more satisfied than you realised but there are some areas that would like to prioritise or focus on. You might target health and take time to consider what steps you might take to increase your satisfaction rating in this area by one point.
I'd certainly encourage you to try the activity. It's a great way to gain clarity and focus. Also it's one way of making sure that your life ladder is propped up against the right wall.
