Yes, you can set new SMART Goals that will enable you achieve various new successes, especially after you have had a breakup or a divorce. Setting new goals that you can easily achieve will help you recover quite quickly from the pain of your breakup or divorce. It will help you rebuild your self-confidence and self-esteem.
WHAT IS SUCCESS?
Success comes to you when you have put in an effort into getting something done well.
It means that you set out to achieve a goal and buy the time you have taken the right actions needed to achieve that goal, you get the exact results that you set out to achieve.
That is SUCCESS!! Hurray! Time to celebrate!
LET’S LOOK AT THE ONE FIRST STEP TO SUCCESS.
– You need to have a Goal: what do you want to achieve?
– How do you want to achieve it – what steps do you need to take to achieve this goal?
– How will you know if you are doing the right things that will eventually lead you to success?
– If you have no Idea where to start, what can you do?
-What time-scale should you give yourself to achieve this goal?
So How Do You Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals?
You goals need to be specific, nothing vague. It needs to be clear in your own head about exactly what you would like to achieve. So, take some time to get some clarity on what you really want to do.
How will you know you have achieved success? What will be the “thing” that lets you understand that you have achieved what you wanted? For example, if you want to lose weight, you could easily measure your success by the number of 1lbs you have lost , say i n a week, or in a month etc. To know that you are are making progress, it is important to have a way of measuring your success.
You should set goals that are within your ability to achieve. For example, it would be nonsensical to set a goal like “I want to achieve a Gold Medal in Swimming at the Next Competition”, when, at this moment, you don’t even know how to swim! Your first achievable goal would be to register in a Gym and learn how to swim. With determination, you can easily achieve that.
As in the example above, you should set goals that are within your reach, and therefore realistic and within your means and ability.
T. Time-constrain or Time-limited.
Set a goal with a time-limit in mind. For example, if you were to set a goal about learning to swim, you could say: I want to be a pretty good swimming by the end of three months from now – so, if this is in January, you should then be looking to be able to swim well enough by the end of March or April.
I hope you get the gist of how to set SMART goals. If you have had a breakup or divorce and you are struggling to move on, set yourself some SMART goals – start small.
For example: Say, you are now in November. Your one SMART goal could be:
“By the end of next month, I will be able to mention my Ex’s name without having tears well up in my eyes. My negative emotions would be fully gone by then”.
Follow up on your desire to rid yourself of negative emotions by doing positive things that make you happy – for example, joining a Positive Meet-up group where you can make new friends, surrounding yourself with positive rather than negative people and immersing yourself in activities that help to show you off as an achiever, someone other people can look up to, etc. That would rebuild your self-confidence so, you can begin to feel self-sufficient, and take control of your own life without being “needy” of your Ex’s help!
I hope this helps.
