Happy New Year 2022!
The closing of one year, and the start of another is a natural place for people to pause, to reflect and to think about what lies ahead. We consider if we're happy, what changes we might like to make in our lives and sometimes we make new year resolutions- eat less, exercise more, get a new job and so on.
There's nothing wrong with this approach- it's great in fact. Until you take a look at the stats. A recent survey by discoverhappyhabits.com found that 93% of people failed to stick to their resolutions. Which prompts the question- why? What's going on?
Perhaps one reason is because we're still the same person. The turn of the clock from 31st December to the 1st of January doesn't change us- we don't suddenly become more motivated or develop a new set of skills. These changes take time.
John Kabat-Zinn, the founder of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) says 'no matter where you go, there you are'. Essentially he means that we can't escape ourselves or who we are, though we may forget this or zone out or even numb out.
We can however take steps to change ourselves and the direction we're going.
This is at the heart of coaching- working out what we want, working out what we need to get there, and then taking action. And taking action. And taking action. You get the idea.
Coaching is the guidance and the support to help you on that journey, and to help you make changes. So that wherever you go, there you are- and you're happy with that.
How could I support you in 2022? I'd love to hear from you.
